Guangzhou FC successfully became the champion of the prestigious international youth tournament, the Garuda International Cup (GIC) 2024. The Chinese club won in the U-17 category.
Guangzhou FC defeated the defending GIC champion, ASIOP Merah, 1-0 in the final match at ASIOP Training Ground, Sentul, on Sunday, August 25. Impressively, Guangzhou FC won the championship by sweeping all their matches from the group stage to the final without conceding a single goal.
In addition to winning the tournament, Guangzhou FC also claimed several individual awards. Huang Haimin was named Best Coach, Fan Mengtong won Best Goalkeeper, and Lou Kai took home two titles: Top Scorer and Best Player.
Guangzhou FC’s coach, Huang Haimin, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for inviting his team to compete in GIC 2024. He noted that the tournament was very well-organized and successful.
“Thank you to the organizers for providing excellent facilities and being cooperative in every way. My team and I are very happy. The tournament was excellent in terms of facilities. All the teams were also very good and showed sportsmanship in the competition,” said Huang Haimin to the media.
“Hopefully, we will be invited again next year,” he concluded.
