The youth football event, Garuda International Cup (GIC) 2024, is currently taking place at the ASIOP Training Ground (ATG) in Sentul, Bogor. This tournament, which has been held since 2015, has garnered serious attention from PSSI.
Eko Setyawan, a member of PSSI’s Executive Committee (Exco), stated that the federation consistently provides full support for the annual GIC event. He praised the GIC for hosting matches that are not only entertaining but also competitive, similar to international matches.
“For the Garuda International Cup (2024), I’ve been in close communication with Mr. Ade (Welington). Regarding recommendations and other matters, we (PSSI) fully support it. I apologize for not being able to attend the GIC 2024 opening,” said Eko.
“This Garuda International Cup tournament is excellent, with participation from several countries. There are also participants from the best leagues, such as Liga TopSkor and TSI. Additionally, Farmel is participating even though it’s not their age group,” he added.
“We intentionally included them to give them experience because this is a very good tournament. It also serves as preparation for the U-17 category for the national team,” he said.
The Garuda International Cup 2024 is being held from August 22-25, 2024, centered at the ASIOP Training Ground in Bogor. The event features teams from eight countries: Indonesia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Singapore.
Garuda International Cup 2024 marks the fourth edition of the tournament, following previous events in 2015, 2022, and 2023. This year, there are three age categories: U-10, U-12, and U-17.
This edition is particularly special as it coincides with Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day celebration and serves as a platform for scouting players for Indonesia’s U-17 National Team.
In addition to the football tournament, GIC 2024 also features a dance competition and the Garuda Mobile Legend Tournament 2024.
Argha Esports emerged as the champion of the Garuda Mobile Legend Tournament 2024, which was held alongside GIC 2024. The runner-up position was claimed by ABZ X Ojay, and Hera secured third place.
In the Garuda Dance Competition 2024, Virtu 5 Dancer from SMAN 5 Bogor took first place.
The runner-up position was awarded to The Glame from SMAN 44 Jakarta, while All Star SMAN 2 Bogor secured third place.
